My First Month at YAP Global: From Lesson Plans to Leading Crypto Narratives

Inside YAP

Hi, I’m Lexi! I’m based in Cape Town, and I’m busy wrapping up my 10-week internship at YAP Global, a PR agency helping crypto projects build trust and tell their stories across the world.. Here’s a glimpse of what my first month has been like.

From Classrooms to Crypto

My previous career was in teaching: lesson plans, pop quizzes, and the familiar hum of students in the background. Now, I’m helping shape crypto narratives across continents.

The leap was daunting at first, but as time goes by, it’s becoming one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Going from day one at school: passing out textbooks, telling teenagers to shush, and revising curriculum, to day one at YAP: drafting a pitch on yen-backed stablecoins, was a huge pivot!

Although slightly intimidating, it felt good to be back in “student mode,” starting from scratch and diving into something completely new. The challenge was genuinely energising.

What have I been doing?

I’ve been taking a crash course in how money and identity work in the crypto world, looking at how Huma Finance connects finance to everyday business, and how ENS is shaping the way we use identity and ownership online. During a recent news sync, I pitched a story about a stablecoin loophole that’s got banks on edge. Being told to write the pitch and run with it felt amazing; all the reading, research, and news-jacking practice finally paid off!

What I love so far

I’m surrounded by smart, curious minds who don’t mind me asking the ‘obvious’ questions. Everyone at YAP is genuinely kind, caring, and brilliant at what they do, which is inspiring. Every day is different: one day, I’m crafting a pitch about Singapore’s stablecoin policy; the next, I’m pulling together media lists, joining team wine-downs, monitoring coverage, and, always, always learning.

The shift from blackboards to blockchain has been huge, exciting, challenging, and full of learning curves. It’s also been a good reminder that it’s possible to start fresh in life if you stay curious and open to learning.

If the first month at YAP is anything to go by, the rest of the journey is going to be even better! I am looking forward to celebrating wins, continuing to develop my crypto knowledge, and becoming more strategic in my pitching.
