From flying around the world for different conferences, connecting with journalists and clients, finding out firsthand about exciting new projects, Mia is our social butterfly. More here, in our third #MeetTheYappers blog post.

Can you tell us the story about your journey into the wild world of blockchain?
I’ve always had a passion for storytelling and prior to blockchain, I worked in digital/social media marketing. I eventually became burnt out at the outcome of success being measured by click conversions and dismayed at monopolistic web2 companies harvesting our data, and felt like I had hit a wall with writing marketing and social media copy. It was around that time that I learned about Ethereum and DAOs and started attending virtual conferences, and became increasingly bullish on the idea that blockchain could revolutionize almost every industry.
What does a day in the life of an Account Manager at YAP Global look like?
Days are spent meeting with clients, preparing PR strategies, chatting with and meeting new journalists, and trying to stay up to speed on the news and on Crypto Twitter activity. Sometimes if big news events happen, we have to jump on the opportunity to get our clients inserted in the narrative. It’s very fast-paced, and you also have to be ready to handle a crisis at any moment.

What is your favourite part of being a part of this industry?
I’m constantly inspired by the things people are building and the new ideas that form on a daily basis. Working in PR means that we get to piece together stories and this sometimes involves multiple clients or other projects in the space. It’s amazing to watch something go from an abstract idea into a full piece, and know that you helped make that narrative a reality by bringing the journalist useful information.
YAP Global has been operating through remote working since before the pandemic and the team is spread globally. How do you manage your daily schedule to communicate with the team and clients?
Starting your day with gm and ending with gn is truly the glue to a global team, working across 5 different time zones. I like to put everything in my calendar – like if I am taking an hour to go for a run – and that way everyone knows when I am and am not at my computer.
What personal qualities would you say are important to be a good fit for the YAP family?
Ability to meme, ability to choose good emojis , willingness to contribute to a team and a value-adding attitude.

What do you love about working in PR and communications, especially in such a fast-paced, constantly evolving industry?
I love being at the forefront of announcements, news and thought leadership in such a nascent space. We get to help translate groundbreaking innovation and bring stories to journalists that may not be reported on had we not picked them up.
